It is almost the end of summer. Which means that if you live anywhere other then Southern California you will be putting away your summer clothes and getting out your fall and winter clothing. But if you live in Southern California, you can still use some of fall’s staples. Some trends to try this fall are: ripped stockings and tights, over the knee boots, legging jeans, sheer fabric, capes and cloaks, ripped denim, military jackets, bright 80s colors, and layers.
Ripped Stockings and tights:
This trend is similar to the trend that we have been seeing for many years: ripped denim. While it is trendy to wear ripped stockings, it is not stylish to pair them with a corporate suit. It will just leave you looking sloppy. Not to mention that people will start wondering if you had an unfortunate run-in with a paper shredder. Instead wear ripped stockings with a black mini skirt and studded books and you will be a fashion-forward woman.
Over the knee boots:
Wearing thigh high boots is the easiest way to stand out of the crowd while wearing a hot trend. Thigh high boots are the most popular shoe trend this fall, but undoubtedly those living in SoCal won’t be ready to give up their strappy sandals for a few more months. When looking for an over the knee boot, the best material to buy is genuine leather. They give you the most bang for your buck and make these boots a real investment piece. The safest color to go with is a soft black or brown, but if you really want to stand out buy an olive green, cream, or grey. If you aren’t sold on leather boots, a good alternative is suede. You can get them in brown, black, maroon, grey, or almost any other color. With so many color choices, you are sure to stand out in a pair of thigh-high boots.
Legging jeans:
They are skinny jeans, only tighter. They fit like a second skin, so if you have the right body type, this jeans will look amazingly in-style for fall and winter. Pair with a long cloak or cape and you are sure to look fashionable without going over the top.
Sheer fabric:
This is one trend that hasn’t really gone away. Sheer fabric has been popular for the past two years and will probably never go out of style. When you put on something that is slightly sheer you feel sexy, without feeling too revealing. There is one word to keep in mind when wearing something sheer: elegance.
Capes and Cloaks:
The fall/Winter runway was filled with capes, so it is a trend that you can’t go wrong with. It is easy to be elegant in a cape if you just grab a vintage cape from the 1920s. There are a lot of flirty styles too, if you are more quirky then elegant. Or if you find a leather cape or a long black cloak, your look can scream rock-chic. Either way you go you will look stylish in one of these trends.
Ripped Denim:
You guessed it. Ripped denim is still one of the trends of the fall, but it is something that really hasn’t gone away. You open up a gossip magazine and you can see a celebrity wearing a pair of ripped jeans or old cut offs. So this fall, you can’t go wrong wearing an ratty pair of jeans (if they fit well , and all the relevant parts are covered).
Military:
This winter, one wardrobe stable to consider is the military jacket. With ornate trim and gold detailing, it is sure to be a winner.
Seeing 80s:
The neon bright colors look amazing for fall, it could be one of the only good thing that came out of 80s fashion. If you aren’t sold on the 80s, one trend to try is bold statement scarf. One that comes in a bright color is a way to try out the bold colors from the 80s in a subtle way.
Layers:
Some climates demand layers, so this is one trend that is always in style. One easy way to add layers it to wear a bright scarf over a warm coat and a pair of jeans. If you want to be even more fashion forward, make sure that you scarf is in a bright color. While it is a good idea to mix and match styles, it might not be the best idea to wear all of these trends mentioned at the same time. It probably isn’t a good idea to wear ripped denim, a military inspired jacket, a bright scarf, and over the knee boots at the same time. Instead of looking like a pulled together, fashion forward woman, you will be looking like a fashion train wreck.
Confidence:
While this might not be a trend, it is something that you should always have before you leave the house. Even if you look perfect in your clothing, if you don’t have the confidence to match, your look will fall flat. So remember, you are amazing.
