1. Hand-Me-Down by Lee Nichols – This is a really endearing chick lit novel about the youngest child who hates anything “used” or “old” because she used to get hand-me-downs from her older sisters. I’ve heard of food having expiration dates, but this girl thinks everything does–including boyfriends. When she starts falling for her sister’s ex-boyfriend she starts to wonder if slightly-used still counts as a hand-me-down.
2. The Night I Got Lucky by Laura Caldwell — This novel is about a woman who thinks she knows exactly what she wants, but when she gets her wish it might not be everything she hoped for. In this hilarious novel, one girl finds out what happens when you get everything you ever wished for overnight. She learns that maybe life isn’t supposed to go the way you plan.
3. Good in Bed by Jennifer Weiner –Based on the title of the book you would think that this novel was about sex. Surprisingly, it isn’t. Alright, maybe its a little about sex. All it takes is  for the 28-year-old Cannie  to read an article by her ex-boyfriend that reads “Loving a larger woman is an act of courage in our world” and Connie is a changed woman. She joins a weight loss group, sells her screen play, and asks for help when she realizes she is in way over her head.
4. Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella — By creating Becky Bloomwood Sophie Kinsella captured the hearts of millions of women. All of the Shopaholic books are laugh out loud funny and you can’t help but love Becky despite her shopaholic tendencies. You just have to read them to see some of the crazy situations that Becky gets herself into. If you loved the movie Confessions of a Shopaholic, you will love the books even more.
5. See Jane Date by Melissa Senate –This is another chick lit novel turned movie. However, the made for TV movie failed to do the book justice! While it captures the general plot, it doesn’t pick up on all the humor of the book. In the book, Jane is desperate to find a date before her younger cousin’s wedding–in two months. It wouldn’t be so bad, except she already RSVPd for two. Is falling in love (in two months flat) too much to ask for?
6. The Corset Diaries by Katie MacAlister– For me, no guide would be complete without a book –or two–by Katie MacAlister. Her books are always hilarious. This book is about an American woman who–despite her lack of qualifications–agrees to play a duchess in a British reality TV show where she has to wear a historically accurate costume complete with a corset. When she meets her yummy English co-star she can hardly breathe–or maybe that is just the corset. (I also recommend Hard Day’s Knight and The Dark Ones series by Katie MacAlister).
7. Asking for Trouble by Elizabeth Young–In order to placate her mother, the unmarried Sophy Metcafe tells a little white lie: she has a perfect boyfriend named Dominic. But her little white lie turns into a big mistake when her sisters gets engaged and Sophy has to produce Mr. Perfect at the wedding. So she hires an escort to pose as Dominic. While at the wedding from hell, she has to pretend to find her escort attractive in front of her family and pretend not to find him attractive when she is alone w i th him–because the truth is, she finds her escort wildly attractive. Asking for Trouble is another hilarious find.
8. The Boy Next Door by Meg Cabot –This is Meg Cabot’s (author of The Princess Diaries) debut adult novel and it is told entirely through emails and written in a tongue-in-cheek-manner. When gossip columnist, Melissa Fuller’s neighbor is attacked she has to take care of her neighbor’s animals until her playboy nephew arrives. He doesn’t seem to be the man that everyone described him to be, is he really who she thinks he is? This is a great book that is far and above one of my favorite chick lit novels.
9. The Nanny Diaries by Emma Mclaughlin and Nicola Kraus –This book is a work place tell all, one that shows the horror of working as a Nanny. It takes a peak into the weird world of being a Nanny for the Manhattan elite. The aptly named Nan is a nanny working for Mrs. X and taking care of Grayer, a cute little 4-year-old boy. You just can’t put the book down because you have to find out what ridiculous task Mrs. X will ask Nan to do next.
10. Bridget Jones’s Diary by Helen Fielding –this is where it all began, with Bridget. No top ten list of Chick Lit would be complete without Bridget and friends. It is a book that started the Chick Lit fad–not just romances, but silly, funny, and fun books that you can gobble your way through in just a few sittings. Helen Fielding created a flawed woman who is constantly getting into all sorts of jams when she created Bridget and you can’t help but fall in love.
