A Guide to Self-Tanners

Want a quick tan without going in the sun? Tanning products are a much safer alternative that direct sunlight, but you do need to be careful about application. If you don’t know how to apply self-tanner, you’ll end up with streaks; also, many products create and orange look, which is totally artificial and people can tell. So here’s some tricks.
Before applying, exfoliate and shave. Dry off. Apply with firm motions in small areas, gradually building out to guarantee an all-over look. Be careful with elbows, knees, and armpits; many people use lotion on those areas first, so that they don’t absorb too much of the tanner.
After application, you can use a small amount of lotion to guarantee an even spread on your skin, but that depends on how well you covered your body originally.
Then wash your hands. Start with your finger nails and nail beds, which is where the tanner will build up and look odd. Wash again, focusing on palms and inner wrists. Dry.
Now wait (naked) for about ten minutes. This allows the lotion to dry. Then you can put on underwear, start getting ready, and after thirty minutes, you can dress. Many people do this at night so that they have more time, and can fix mistakes the next day.
Now that we got that out of the way, here are our favorite self-tanning products.
My all-time favorite for a gradual, natural tan is Jergens Natural Glow. If used everyday, you earn a nice, natural-looking bronze, without that fake-tanner orange look. It’s absolutely my favorite! Jergens also has a Face Natural Glow product that doesn’t break me out.
If you want a quick tan, we like these two options: Banana Boat Summer Color and Millenium Tanning Paint it Black. Both are quick tanners that give a natural bronze, rather than an orange glow.
