The Vampire Diaries is currently in it’s first season and is based on the popular book series The Vampire Diaries. Before the show came out, many people thought that the show would skate off the success of Twilight, but the show has since proved that it can stand on its own. The Vampire Diaries follows popular Vampire Folk Lore, but still manages to stand out.
The show begins with the vampire Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley) coming back to his family home in Mystic Falls, Virgina to be closer to Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev). Elena looks exactly like Katherine, the woman Stefan and his brother, Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) loved many years ago.

Things really got interesting when Damon reviled his plan to open the tomb that contains 26 vampires and Katherine –his and Stefan’s first love. We were already excited by the love triangle between Stefan, Elena, and Damon. But this just add to the intrigue. The mystery behind the tomb will be revealed on January 21 when The Vampire Diaries returns from its hiatus. And you won’t have to wait until the season finale to find out what happens. The writers aren’t going to wait unti the end of season to open up Katherine’s tomb according to eonline.com
So the only question that remains is what will happen when they open the tomb, and how they will open it since Bonnie (Katerina Graham) destroyed the necklace Damon was planing on using to open the tomb.
