Secrets for Healthy, Beautiful Full Hair
Tired of dry, brittle hair? Does it feel like straw, or do your ends fray unattractively? Even if they don’t, every girl’s hair needs a little pick-me-up.

Secrets for Healthy, Beautiful Thick Hair
I dyed my hair from the time I was 16 until I was almost 20. I went from Strawberry Blonde to a dark brown, auburn, soft brown, and even tried putting henna in it for depth. I saw myself in a picture in January 08 and my hair just looked awful. It was flat, long but thin, and my ends were so frayed from daily straightening I thought it was a brown broom. I had to do something, and fast.
My plan was to quit dying my hair. That immediately helped. My hair faded back to its original color by August, but it wasn’t as soft as I wanted. So I had to move onto a new method.
I had to hit the stores. I didn’t have much of a budget, so I had to look for affordable conditioners. My finds: Pantene Pro-V and Garnier Fructis. I would alternate between a volumizing and a strengthening, such as Pantene Pro-V’s Full and Thick, and GARNIER Fructis Sleek & Shine Sheer Fortifying Conditioner daily. Sometimes, I would use a little bit of both in one day, just for a combination. My hair hasn’t grown immune, in my opinion, because I switch it up. And I make sure that I have one of each product brands on hand.

When you choose conditioner, make sure you look for what your hair requires. Volumizing and lengthening are always good backups since your hair always needs it. But if your hair is always thick, probably go for a texturizing or moisturizing conditioner. If your hair gets oily too quickly, use a deep clean shampoo like Head and Shoulders, which helps absorb the oils from your roots while you wash. Remember, shampoo should only be rubbed into the scalp, because it can easily absorb the oils you need in the shaft of your hair, which will dry it out.
Also, buy a deep conditioner and consider a leave-in conditioner, if you can afford it. A few times a week I use the deep conditioner during the shower, but once a week I try to do the ultimate deep condition. I dampen my hair and coat the shafts (no need to touch the roots, just work from mid-shaft and downwards). Make sure that your ends are coated pretty well – for hair that reaches mid-back, a half-dollar size usually does the trick. You can put your hair in a bun to lock in the moisture, or wrap in a scarf (silk or satin will smooth it and prevents split ends). If you’re nervous about your pillows, just put a soft towel over it or a spare sheet.
After you wash the conditioner out and style it, your hair should be soft and healthier looking.
If you need a lighter conditioning or it doesn’t quite do the trick, try spraying in a tiny bit of leave-in conditioner on your ends and towel dry. It should help keep it soft and silky.
These have been my tricks for the past year and a half, and my hair has gotten to the point where I’m pretty much satisfied. I try to get my hair trimmed regularly (8ish weeks) and my hair has gotten longer, thicker, and healthier, even after 4 years of dying it. After a while, I even began to bleach peek-a-boos by a professional, and it still remains healthy. My next goal? The secret to fast growing hair – if we knew that, hair would be a whole lot easier.
I hope this helps! If you know of some methods of healthier, fuller, beautiful hair, feel free to leave your advice in the comment box below.
