Sleep Like a Baby

10 September 2009 by Allison | | No Comment

I know I’m always trying to go to bed early in order to wake up for work, but end up feeling more tired than when I went to sleep. It’s frustrating. You just want to sleep all day but can’t because you’re so busy, and then the schedule repeats itself the following night.

So I looked up a few tips online in order to solve my little predicament. So far, these have been helping noticeably.

First, try to go to bed and wake up at the same time everyday. A routine helps your body keep a schedule, so that your natural clock doesn’t get out of sync. Of course, I know on the weekends I stay up later, but I do notice that throwing a screw in my whole weekly sleep schedule, so try to be careful. Also, have you noticed that this is something enforced when you raise children? A child is kept on a schedule to keep their parents happy; put your body on a schedule to make you happy.

Second, knock off the caffeine before 3pm. You drink caffeine for a pick up, and the substance stays in your body hours. If it is still too strong in your body when you try to go to bed, you will notice a difference. Your body will be too restless and energetic and your basically trash any hopes for a good night sleep (this includes energy drinks).

Third, make sure you are active through out your day. By burning calories your body is more worn out and ready to rest. If you work sitting down, make sure you do something for about an hour to get that energy out. Invest in a Wii for a few hours of exercise, or go for a walk with a friend or pet. Do something, that is all that matters.

Fourth, an hour before you go to bed, turn off the computer and TV. These keep our minds too stimulated to relax enough to sleep. Any noise will instantly spark your mind again, so if you can avoid it, do so! If not, use an iPod or a CD player and play some relaxing sleepy music. It will help you relax and drift off.

I hope these help you. I live by these rules, since I love sleep so much, and it’s so hard to get enough of. Do you have any sleeping tips? Leave them in a comment below.
