If you’re like me, it’s easy to lose a pound or two, but they most certainly always come back. I get spurts of exercise motivation, where I spend a total of two weeks jogging, doing pilates, yoga, and whatever else I can sink my teeth into. But a week after I stop working out, the scale is already back to where it was, sometimes even higher! Let’s just say, it is frustrating, and I’m sure many of you go through the same problem. Now, let’s figure out why and beat this cycle.

There has been a lot of research into this dilemma over the last couple years. It seems that behavior modification is the biggest player in a person’s ability to lose weight. It has been proven time and time again (believe me, I know) that women who lose a significant amount of weight in a short period of time are almost always guaranteed to gain it back. The culprit? Many of these women do not take the time to adjust their behavior. Women, the majority of which are creatures of habit, do not normally have a healthy living habit, and that turns around and dumps the pounds back on.

One of the recurring patterns with women who do keep their weight off do more than just manage what and how much they eat—it is a change in their lifestyles that ultimately make the difference. You need to become more active, such as taking up some sort of hobby. If you are the energetic sort, search through your city listings and look for sports teams you would be interested in. Or take a trip to the beach for a hot day of beach volleyball, Frisbee, or bike ride. If you’re on the low energy scale, activities like swimming and power walking are great alternatives. Something simple you can do to get your heart pumping is to take a walk around the perimeter of your home every time you leave in the morning, which will keep you burning calories all day.

It is impossible to keep your body in shape if you do not make any life changes. The solution is not in some pill or drug or special order expensive packaged meals – it is all about you. Keep your life active and you will feel your energy expanding, which will actually motivate you to exercise even more. All it takes it a couple easy steps and you will notice a difference. But remember, to keep in shape is a lifestyle change; don’t think it is some easy task. Just keep imagining some goal you have in the future, whether it be to look good in a holiday dress, or to show off for that special someone. Not only will you notice a change, but everyone around you will feel the energy and accomplishment radiating off of you and asking what *your* secret is.
