As fall turns into winter and the weather turns colder, it is nice to know that Fall 2009 Fashion translates well into Winter 2009/2010. Most of the clothes you wore for fall, still work for winter. All you need is a warmer coat and to remember some of these key trends for winter 2009/2010 and you will be stylish all year.

The number one must have item for winter 2010, is over the knee boots. over-the-knee-boots-2010They are sexy, fun, and fashionable. The length of the boot can vary from just over the knee all the way up to just below the hip. I would recommend buying the just over the knee variety so that you don’t end up looking like a hooker. Most are made of suede or genuine leather and the colors are very neutral so that the boot makes an impression and not a garish color. Also make sure to avoid any boots with a chunky heal or a patent finish. Many celebrities have been spotted wearing thigh high boots such as Rihanna, Madonna, Hayden Panettiere, Victoria Beckham, and Kate Moss.

Another popular trend during these cold winter months, is chunky knits. This can be in the form of a bright chunky knit scarf, a chunky knit jumper, or chunky sweater. So when it gets colder, grab a warm scarf that you knitted yourself.

40's reproduction vintage clothing fashionsMany of the fashions on the runway for the winter 2009/2010 are inspired by the fashions from the 1940s. So if you want to look stylish in 2010, it is a good idea to learn about some of the key trends from the 1940s.

Clothes from the 1940s emphasized a woman’s hourglass figure. With a focus on the waist, the shoulders and hips look wider.Wearing a belt emphasizes your shape in a subtle way. Fashionable women in the 1940s also used big shoulder pads (a look that is currently in vogue) and full skirts.

Women embraced their feminine side by wearing ruffles and sheer fabrics and tiny gloves.

They also played up their masculine side by wearing loose clothing like jeans with the cuffs rolled up and loose men’s shirts.

Neon colors are also making a comeback. These neon colors bring back memories of a brightly colored 1980s past. The trend for winter 2010 is to contrast one of these vivid colors with black or white for a look that truly stands out. Leggings and tunics in bright colors can be worn with denim jeans, or a solid black top.
Another popular trend for winter 2009/2010 is bold, statement jewelry. Large and extravagant necklaces were seen all over the runway. It doesn’t matter the style, all that matters is big and bold

As always, winter coats are a very hot trend. The most popular coats are statement pieces. Read more about Winter Coats for 2009.
